The Kenyan did so in spectacular fashion, clocking a lifetime best time of 1:56.71 for the second time in less than a month, having done so during the National Trials last month.

Kenya's final medal of the Championships brought the country's total to ten, one less than the haul at the 2019 showpiece in Doha.

Olympic champion Athing Mu of the United States just missed out on gold in front of home fans, clocking a world-leading time of 1:56.30 ahead of Britain's Keely Hodgkinson, who clocked 1:56.38.

Moraa, Kenya's sole representative in the race, was fourth as the athletes completed the first lap, with Mu, the Olympic champion, commanding the lead with her long strides.

The Kenyan began to charge up the back straight, and with only 100 meters to go, she made sure she did just enough to secure bronze, keeping Ethiopian Diribe Welteji at a safe distance.

The 22-year-old has now added a senior medal to her global collection, joining the World Under-18 silver she won in Nairobi in 2017.

Her attention will now shift to the Commonwealth Games, where she will compete in both the 800m and 400m.
