The World Press Freedom Day was declaied public in 1993, making this the 30th celebrations. The day reminds of the acheivement of  freedom of speech amongst journalists. In the past years, media personalities have been under attack for expression.

Independent media and digital technology over the world have boosted the flow of information.This, however, does not stop the hinderance against journalists and media personalities.  Some of the challanges include physical torture, conflicts and violence, environmental crisis, health issues which might be geographical among others.

The media is supposed to be a 'perfect' channel. This is because of the levels of dependancy for information to the public.

The day was officialized by the UN General Assembly. The main impact for the day is to  seek freedom, impart, give information for the good and benefit of the people. 

There is need to celebrate and protect the press. The police and the public who attack the press should be behind bars.
