The individuals were arrested as part of a crackdown on rogue riders, according to Trans Nzoia West Deputy County Police Commander (DCPC) Peter Lobolia.

"We have 43 riders in our possession," Lobolia stated.

In the ongoing operation, 43 motorcycles were also seized.

He told the Star in his Kitale office that the raid was just a routine operation to weed out individuals riding without a valid license, helmet, or more than one passenger.

Boda Boda officials in Trans Nzoia county have begged the police to be humane during the operation, stating that their drivers have families and loans to pay.

"This operation to remove renegade Boda Boda riders is not something we oppose. The police, on the other hand, should not use the Presidential directive to benefit themselves," their chairman, Tony Kolombo, stated.

He stated that hundreds of riders were now living in fear and had decided to stay at home until the operation is completed.

"What do you expect to happen when the riders come into touch during the evening if the riders choose to stay at home while the other cadres work?" he said.
