57 Nairobi Residents who defied curfew rules and regulations against COVID-19 were punished by cleaning the streets under the guidance of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

The 57 were arraigned at the Kibera Law Court and released but on condition that they participate in community service.

The group was reportedly arrested at a popular city club after they overstayed their welcome well past curfew hours.

On Monday, March 22, they were paraded and given instructions on what they were required to do as their punishment.

NMS will work through the Directorate of Enforcement to oversee their services which will be carried out in various facilities and streets of Nairobi.

The flouters will be deployed to clean various sites include Marikiti and Muthuruwa markets, Globe Roundabout, and Nairobi River for an entire week.

They will report every day from 8 am and work until 5 pm for the week.

The enforcement agency warned that anyone who would not follow court orders will be rearrested and arraigned in court to be handed more severe punishment.
