Now, most people think that blonde hair is only associated with people of European descent. It might be surprising to some but blonde hair naturally grows on this second group of beautiful people. This group isn’t mixed-race either. Ladies and gents, the only other race with naturally blonde hair are blacks from the Melanesian region.

Surprised? I was when I first found out too. Melanesia is a region consisting of several islands in the Pacific region. You might have heard of Polynesia and Micronesia before which are other regions of islands in the Pacific region, East of Australia and West of the Americas.  Melanesians are believed to have migrated from Africa 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. This is according to the Southern dispersal theory which is illustrated below.

They are part of the huge African diaspora just like the Caribbean people, African Americans, and Southeast Asians of black ancestry. Yes, the African race also migrated to other parts of the world freely and settled in newly discovered territories. Melanesians are an important part of black history but it is for an entirely different reason that we celebrate them.

The term Melanesia is a Greek word meaning islands of the black people. Melanesia is a unique region with a flora and fauna unlike any other. The countries of Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands are also home to unique black people with naturally blonde hair. Some Melanesians have naturally blonde hair due to a couple of factors. There are many explanations to why this happens but the most logical one is the presence of a mutated gene in a portion of the population.

This gene is responsible for giving the blonde hair color and is quite different from the gene in white blonde people. The TYRP1 gene is not present in Europeans but it is responsible for blondeness in Melanesians. The gene is recessive and the hair tends to darken in adulthood, however, some still carry the same naturally blonde hue into maturity.

Naturally blonde and nonblonde Melanesians are some of the happiest and most friendly people on earth despite their slow development. The region is a nature haven save for a couple of mining projects which have greatly destroyed the island of Papua New Guinea. The African race is as diverse as they come, let’s celebrate our unique God-given beauty. This is the story of the only naturally blonde blacks. You might want to tour the region if you've always wanted naturally blonde kids.
