A 57-year-old pastor at a Kabete Anglican Church escaped death when Police rescued him from an armed gang that had held him hostage on Friday night.

John Dinguri Chege, got in the arms of the four armed men as he drove home at 8 pm.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, the police learnt of the incident when the gangsters had already taken control of the vehicle and were commandeering it to Kiamumbi in Kiambu County.

“When Police officers got wind of the incident, they immediately pursued the suspects while a separate team laid an ambush along Kamiti road,” said the DCI.

“In a well-executed plan to rescue the man of the cloth from the jaws of the bloodthirsty gang, the vehicle was finally intercepted some metres past Jacaranda,” added Kinoti.

The suspects, however, defied the police orders to surrender which prompted a fierce shootout that left two of the thugs dead.

Two other suspects escaped in the middle of the night leaving the terrified pastor in the hands of the police.

“Two other suspects managed to disappear in the dead of the night with gunshot wounds, leaving the badly shaken Church Minister in the safety of our officers,” confirmed Kinoti.

The police recovered a smith and wesson pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm calibre, and a knife from the suspects.

“Meanwhile, a manhunt for the two suspects who disappeared is currently ongoing. Should you have any information on their whereabouts kindly share with us anonymously,” Kinoti urged the public.
