The 23-year old now has two records her first record of 29 minutes and 1.03sec coming from 5,000m at the Ethiopia’s Olympic trials that was held at Hengelo in Netherlands to make her the first woman to hold the 5,000m and 10,000m world record simultaneity since Norway’s Ingrid Kristiansen.

With the help of pacer technology, she managed to beat her previous best set at the World Championships in Doha 2019 to finish ahead of Tsigie Gebreselama and five second ahead of the Dutch Sifan Hassan.

“I expected to run a world record, I’d like to break the world record again and break 29 minutes,” said Gidey.
