A 15-year-old girl from Jamhuri showground quarters, Nairobi, was allegedly beaten to death on Thursday night by her family members for running away from home.

Her father-Frankline Ntwiga Marangu, mother-Benedetta Mbeni Muthoka (an administration assistant at ASK showground) and her elder brother-Ntwiga Ian Marangus (a student at Technical University of Kenya) are said to have ganged against her for failing to report to school after she ran away from home.

According to Coptic hospital’s management, the hospital received the teenager in the company of her father for medical check-up at 9pm on Thursday May 20.

“She was examined and discharged, where the father took her back home at Jamhuri showground quarters,” said Norine Mwende, a clinical officer.

However, before she was pronounced dead, the victim had been rushed again to the same hospital after she purportedly collapsed at home following a serious beating from the three family members.

“In the wee hours of Friday, the deceased was rushed to the same hospital after she allegedly collapsed at home following a serious beating from her father, mother and brother,” confirmed the Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti.

Mwende reported that her body had bruises all over, a sign that she had been grievously assaulted.

One PPR pipe believed to have been used to beat up the deceased, was recovered by the homicide team from the DCI Unit who visited the scene and kept as exhibit.

“As further investigations continue, the three suspects have been placed in custody at Kilimani police station,” said Kinoti, “the body is awaiting postmortem at Coptic hospital morgue.”

The victim was a student at Kiteta Girls Secondary in Mbooni, Makueni County.
