A Kirinyaga Lady is Suing Her 97-Year-Old Mother for Commercial Property.

In a dispute regarding a business building at Baricho Market in Kirinyaga County, a Kirinyaga lady has gone to court to seek orders against her 97-year-old mother.

Mary Nguru is attempting to prevent their mother, Sabena Wairimu, from entering the building. Sabena claims that her daughter has been harassing her tenants.

Nguru claims ownership of the property and has been paying water and energy bills, according to a sworn declaration.

According to media sources, the issue has been in the courts for nearly six years and also involves Nguru's six other siblings, who are accused of inciting tenants at the disputed property to refuse to pay their rent.

Sabena Wairimu, Nguru's mother, claims the property does not belong to her daughter and that she is in the process of inheriting it from her late husband, Cyprian Kinyanjui

“I wish to reiterate that the suit property does not belong to the plaintiff and falls within the estate of my deceased husband, which estate is subject to the process of succession," the 97-year-old stated.

Nguru, on the other hand, claimed she had suffered damages as a result of the respondents issuing eviction letters to some tenants and vandalizing the building's amenities. She asked the court to grant her application, claiming that the respondents' acts were illegal.

“I stand to suffer irreparable loss and damages if the defendants are not hereby restricted," Nguru told the court.

On April 20, Nguru struggled to keep masses under control who had gathered to see the property tussle.

Senior Principal Magistrate David Ireri granted the application and scheduled a hearing on May 11th.
