AG joins in chellenging BBI ruling by the court of appeal

The Attorney General Paul Kihara, is the latest to join the BBI secretariat alongside the IEBC, in battling the quashing of the BBI by the Court of Appeal. A total of three appeals have so far been made against the ruling made by the court of appeal. In less than two weeks since the ruling, the three appeals are an indication for another round of legal battle on the bill.

The AG on his end is challenging the findings which he argues are against article 255, 256 and 257 of the constitution thus the findings are limited and biased. The IEBC challenges the findings that it did not meet the quorum to verify the signatures and its mandate in the process of constitutional amendment while the secretariat was the first to challenge the findings of the 7 judge panel.

Some of the key issues the BBI promised to tackle include: The menace of Corruption, Ethical Politics, Enhancing devolution, Divisive Politics, Safety and Security, the Rights of the People, National Inclusivity, Shared Prosperity and Ethnic Antagonism and Competition.

Majority of Kenyans did not understand the first constitution which is nearly breaking their backs with responsibilities and hence, an amendment would have required a clear understanding of the existing constitution and what the changes meant for citizens. The ruling might have been a cease fire call but the war is evidently still on.
