On Monday, December 5, militants from al Shabaab ambushed two police officers in the Hagadera neighborhood of Garissa.

The police who were in a group of ten, had been on patrol in Yumbis, travelling to a location to gather firewood when they were attack.

According to police, the attack that left two of them injured occurred at 1:00 pm. One of the police sustained injuries on the right ankle and right hand.

The crew from the elite Border Patrol Unit came across the assailants along the side of the road and started shooting at them. Bullets fired by the terrorists struck a police van.

The police were able to fight off the assailants when a backup squad arrived on the site. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers were carrying AK-47 rifles, PKM rocket-propelled grenades, and PKM.

The squad that was attacked fought off the intruder and later found a Rocket Propelled Grenade 60mm with charge and used cartridges nearby.

Later, the group was able to safely detonate the explosives.

George Seda, the head of the North Eastern police, said the hurt policemen were taken to a nearby hospital, were hospitalized and are now in a stable condition.

Residents claimed the terrorist organization was prowling the area and plotting an attack. The head of police claimed that in an effort to stop similar attacks, more men had been sent to guard the area.
