ALEART : Highways Turn Deadly As Kenyans Ignore Using Foot Bridges
Most Nairobi highways have grown dangerous because most people do not use the built footbridges. According to a thorough analysis conducted by Bright Kenya News, areas near the outering Road such as Mutindwa, Stella, and White House are the most dangerous.
In addition, Mbagathi road has also followed the suit pedestrians find it difficult to use footbridges.
A Twitter user on Friday 4th shared his experience on the people dashing to cross the highways leaving the footbridges.
"For outering road at Mtindwa and white house area guys choose death over safety. I have never understood the hurry Kenyans have that they can't use the footbridge at these two locations".
In addition, another Twitter user stated that he witnessed a fatal incident where a young lady was hit by an oncoming vehicle while she was rushing to cross the road.

In October 2021 the Kenya Urban Roads Authority {KURA} and the police decided to go after unrully kenyans who were crossing teh roads at undesignated points at least 300 people were arrested.
They were hauled into a city court and fined between Sh500 and Sh3,000, with those who couldn't pay spending the weekend in jail.
Some pedestrians claimed that the footbridges had not been officially commissioned and that they were unsure if they were permitted to use them.
Kura’s assistant director of corporate communication, John Cheboi stated that it was their innitiative to let pedestrians understand the importance of using footbridges.
“As Kura, we have set up footbridges in the major busy roads for a purpose but some pedestrians still choose to use shortcuts at the expense of their lives,” he said.
The 13-kilometer stretch of outering Road between Taj Mall and Allsops has been the scene of numerous incidents, and there has been a public outcry over pedestrian fatalities and injuries.
Outering Road was named the city's most dangerous route by the National Transportation Safety Administration (NTSA) in June 2018.Outering Road, after Mombasa Road, was named the second deadliest road in August 2019.
