Senate members on Tuesday (today) joined their national assembly colleagues in voting 'yes' to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill.

The move now means that both Senate and National assembly Speakers will now forward the Bill to President Kenyatta in line with Article 257 of the Constitution.

Thereafter, President Kenyatta will then take the control of the entire exercise by determining the date when the referendum will be held.

According to Article 256, Section 5, President Kenyatta is required to request the electoral commission (IEBC) to call for a referendum with 90 days.

The 90-days duration will start counting from the day the president will have received the Bill. The faster the Bill sails through, the soon the nation is likely to hold a referendum.
