Arsenal Dent Spurs' Top Four Hopes

Defeat for Spurs brings to an end Jose Mourinho's winning streak of five matches, further putting Spurs' top-four hopes in tatters as they lie in seventh place, six points behind Chelsea in fourth, who drew 0-0 away at Leeds United on Saturday, March 13.

Arsenal came from behind to register their first North-London derby win since December 2018 by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Sunday, March 14.

The Gunners were without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was left out of the squad due to disciplinary reasons.

They were largely dominant for most of the first half, with strikes from Emile Smith-Rowe and Cedric Soares hitting the woodwork. However, they fell behind in the 33rd minute with Erik Lamela, who replaced the injured Heung-min Son after 19 minutes, drilled in a spectacular Rabona through the legs of Thomas Partey into the bottom corner.

The hosts did get their reward for their hard work in the first half, with Martin Odegaard turning home Kieran Tierney's cutback and they turned the game around midway through the second half when Alexandre Lacazette scored from the spot after being brought down by Davinson Sanchez.

Lamela then turned from hero to villain when he threw out a stray arm to catch Tierney to pick up his second yellow card in a matter of eight minutes, while Harry Kane, who had a late header disallowed for offside, struck the post with a free-kick before Gabriel Magalhaes' brilliant block to deny Sanchez scoring from the rebound secured Arsenal all three points.
