After winning the recently concluded party nominations, Bahati was given the green light to run for the Mathare constituency on the Jubilee party ticket.

He claimed he has been asked to withdraw his candidacy because the area is zoned for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) while addressing the media on Monday.

In a video obtained by Citizen Digital, Bahati sobbed as he begged ODM leader Raila Odinga to intervene and allow him to run for the seat, claiming that he is also a member of the Azimio la Umoja team.

"I am also in Azimio and this certificate here is not only Bahati but it represents many other youths, this is a sign of hope. I respect my president and Raila Odinga but please give the youth of this country chance," he said.

According to Bahati, Mathare people will be denied the right to vote for their leader if Bahati does not appear on the ballot ahead of the August elections.

"I personally have made a decision that I'm not backing down from the race. My name will be on the ballot on August 9," said Bahati

"I will not step down for someone that does not understand the needs of my people," he added.

He stated that he will continue to support the Azimio la Umoja team, claiming that it is a welcoming environment for young people.

He also pleaded with Azimio to allow him to carry the party's flag in the August elections, alleging that he was the only contestant who understood the concerns that impact Mathare residents.
