Benjamin Mendy charged with sexual assault
Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been arrested on three accounts of rape and a sexual assault. Cheshire police constabulary confirmed that the player is already in custody. The police indicated that further investigations on the charges are underway and the player will be a fair trial will be given. The public has also been cautioned against sharing of information that could undermine the investigation. The allegations leveled against him involve three complainants above 16 years. He is alleged to have committed the crime between October last year and August 2021.

The French international left-back joined the England big wings in the 2017 summer transfer for a 6 year contract. The 27 year old moved to Man City from Monaco for a record transfer fee of €52m. In a press statement, the club confirmed his suspension awaiting final verdict on the charges. The club decided not to make any further comments until the investigation is complete.
