Benzema x Mbappe partnership run riot as 'Les Blues' clinch Nations League
French players Karim Benzema (L) and Kylian Mbappe (R) celebrate their goal against Spain in the UCL final last night.

France were off to an electric start as Man United's Paul Pogba threaded a perfectly laid-out pass to Real Madrid star Man Karim Benzema but Cèsar Azpilicueta cut the delivery short knowing Kylian Mbappe was lurking in the penalty area looking for a rebound.

Spain were quick to respond and out-of-favour City forward Ferran Torres picked out Sporting Lisbon forward Pablo Sarabia but the former PSG man fluffed his chance.

The highlight of the half was when Anthony Taylor looked to VAR for a potential handball on Seville Centre Back Jules Koundè but after a brief review, no penalty was awarded.

After a goalless first half and knowing that a silverware is at stake France almost broke through as Milan Left Back Theo Hernandez went inches close to grabbing the lead as his chance blistered over the bar.

Spain drew first blood when Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets picked out Oyarzabal with a brilliant long pass and the Real Sociedad forward took the ball into his stride and released a left foot finish past Hugo Lloris to bag his sixth international goal.

'Les Blues' responded almost immediately as Benzema fired a fine curled effort to cut the deficit. The Madrid talisman has 2 goals in as many games.

The game was wide open for a major part of the game but all that changed in the 80th min when Kylian Mbappe timed his run to perfection, receiving a Theo  Hernandez through ball before the PSG centre forward hoodwinked Una Simòn with a couple of stepovers before dispatching a clinical finish past the Athletic Bilbao shot stopper.

The win was the cherry on the cake to Karim Benzemas Man of the match performance, with the Spanish based man securing his first International title since being recalled to 'Les Blues' and quite possibly the beginning of a lethal duo with Kylian Mbappe both at club and country as they prepare for 2022 Qatar World Cup in a year's time as well as a possible summer move for Mbappe to Madrid.
