The Reds came to this match motivated from their last win against the Chiefs with a good start but failed to use the battle advantage before Stewart’s tackling blander put the Blues ahead on the 12th minute by Otere Black.

Defensive error almost caught up with the Reds for the second time only to be saved at the line. They managed to contain the pressure and managed to score the first try through Harry Wilson and after the 25th minute, the Blues immediately responded through Dalton Papali to put the Blues back in front.

Brandon Paenga-Amosa was immediately shown a yellow card for collapsing a driving maul near his own try line and with an additional man, the Blues hit back through Mark Telesa who crossed for his side’s second try just before halftime.

The Blues picked up from the first half and through a spectacular effort that saw Patrick Tuipulotu crash over after 19 phases of attack following a line-out steal inside the opposition 22 only for the Reds to respond five minutes later through Paenga-Amosa to reduce the scores to 10.

Finlay Christie had a different idea for the Blues to stick to their 17 point advantage with his try from the back of the ruck but the Reds knew how to respond but Filipo Daugunu’s try for a possible fightback but time wasn’t enough.

Meanwhile, Crusaders continued their form dominance with a close win of 29-21 against Western Force in Christchurch to remain second in the pool.
