A section of rogue bodaboda operators stormed Karatina Hospital on Thursday night, March 11, dragged three patients out of the facility and killed two of them on the spot.

The riders accused the trio of being involved in a string of crimes that saw six bodaboda riders killed and their motorbikes stolen.

The riders reportedly overwhelmed security at the hospital as well as police officers placed on the watch of the patients, who had earlier on been rescued from irked riders who wanted to lynch them.

The mob allegedly beat the duo to death and set their bodies on fire as police officers watched.

"They managed to do this unlawful act after overpowering our officers. However, we have managed to save one of the suspects who is currently being treated,”  Mathira East Police Boss James Barasa told K24 Digital.

Earlier in the day, the riders are said to have cornered the trio and beat them up before police officers dispersed them in rescuing the trio and took them to hospital.

The riders stormed the suspects' houses and razed them down before going to the hospital to flush them out.

The National Police in January vowed to hunt down bodaboda operators for taking the law into their own hands.

Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai had declared that the National Police Service had received numerous complaints where boda boda riders had assaulted civilians and in some cases, burnt their vehicles.

"I caution all boda boda riders and operators against the uncouth and uncivilized manner of addressing issues," read an excerpt of the statement.
