The two young males were suspected of being murdered, according to police, and are in the Embu Referral Hospital mortuary; the bodies are still unclaimed.

According to morgue workers, no one had come to the morgue to identify or claim the dead.

Gregory Mutiso, the Mbeere South police chief, said the process of identifying the dead has begun.

"We have taken fingerprints from the victims for analysis to establish the identity of the slain young men aged 25 and 30," Mutiso said.

"We have no clue why the victims were eliminated but we have launched investigations to find the motive behind the heinous act and those implicated," he added.

He pleaded with individuals who had lost family to assist in the identification of the dead.

According to him, the men were strangled and their remains were placed in gunny bags before being tossed into the river.

The bodies were discovered floating near the Tana bridge by residents who were gathering water and reported the incident to the Makutano Police Station.

Officers arrived at the scene, collected the remains, and took them to the mortuary.

The men are thought to have been slain elsewhere and dumped in the river to hide the evidence.

According to the police chief, the deceased had strangulation marks on their necks.

Mutiso asked citizens to come forward with information that will aid police in finding the killers and identifying the victims.
