Police are looking into the death of a second-year student at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Homa Bay town on Thursday night.

Austine Omondi, the clinical medicine student, was killed by unidentified assailants and his body behind the Homa Bay prison in the town.

According to police, he was struck in the head with a blunt object. His body exhibited bruises and he passed away as a result of excessive bleeding.

A local elder informed Assistant Chief Erick Odhiambo of the Semenya sub-location on Friday morning that a body had been discovered on a road.

"I went to the scene and found a pool of blood. Police had picked up the body,” the assistant chief said.

Investigators say that ht murder may have occurred in the early hours of the morning but what caused the death was unclear.

Monica Berege, head of DCI in the sub county reported that DCI investigators had visited the KMTC campus to determine the student's final moments.

"We shall talk to his colleagues to tell us what he was doing before he died," she said.

His neighbors at his off-campus apartment are additional people who need to be questioned.

On Friday morning, there was still fresh blood at the crime scene and there were no indications as to what was used in the murder.

The deceased's body was taken to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary
