On March 5, two of the club's bouncers are reported to have surrounded Charles Chege, accusing him of stealing another patron's phone.

In a video, bouncers are shown injuring the father of three with pipes and sticks, as well as blows and kicks.

The thrashing is believed to have lasted for about three hours.

The deceased body was found by the roadside outside the club by the police.

An autopsy found that the cause of death was several injuries caused by blunt force trauma.

"That's where the body was located by Kileleshwa police," Anne Fataki, the deceased's sister, told the K24 investigations desk. They brought the body to the City Mortuary at 8 a.m. and labelled it 'unknown.'

"He was savagely battered to death." All of the ribs and legs had been fractured... He looked like he'd been hit in the skull with a blunt object, and he had blood clots all over his body."

"Sina kijana mwingine, alikuwa ni huyo tu, lakini nimewasamehe wenye walifanya hivo," said Hellen Njeri, the deceased's mother. Hiyo, Mungu wao ingine watamalizana. Labda wangempeleka kwa polisi, ata angekuwa amefanya makosa."

Following the event, eight club personnel were detained, including the manager, two bouncers, and five other employees.
