The representative stated that the price increase was caused by an increase in the price of raw ingredients used in the bread's production, such as wheat.

"You know the cost of material has gone up. In regards to that, even us on our side we are going to, at least, make some adjustments that may fit in. Kindly bare with us," she stated.

According to data issued by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on January 31, Kenyans could expect to face tough times due to the rising inflation.

In January 2022, the overall year-over-year inflation rate, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 5.39 percent. This was primarily due to price increases in items such as food (8.89%) and transportation (6.84%), among others.

Following the consequences of the pandemic on the economy, bread prices increased by Ksh5 for the first time in almost four years in January 2021.
