BREAKING NEWS: Derek Chauvin Found Guilty in George Floyd`s Murder Case
Cheers and jubilations erupted in Minneapolis after the former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin found guilty un the murder of George Floyd.
He was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. The death of Mr. Floyd spurred the largest civil rights protests in decades.
George Floyd was killed by police officer Derek in May 2020.
However, the case involving George`s murder drew comparisons to the death of Eric Garner six years earlier in New York where the two men both uttered the same dying words to the police officers forcefully restraining them: “I can’t breathe.”
“Today, the tears are pure joy,” Chris Stewart, a lawyer for Mr. Floyd’s family, said at a Hilton hotel in downtown Minneapolis. “Pure joy and pure shock, because days like this don’t happen.”
Though the family celebrated the trial’s outcome, they noted that police violence against Black Americans persists and that their fight is not over.
