According to the party, Boniface requested to stand down from his position in order to spend time with his family.

“We wish to announce that our Party Chairperson, Boniface Mwangi, has requested to stand down from his position as Party Leader, so he can take a break and spend time with his family,” the party said.

It also appreciated him for steering the party during his leadership and wished him well.

His resignation comes two days after he announced that he is done with Kenyan politics.

The activist had said through a nine-minute video shared on his Twitter account that he went through traumatic elections.

“For the sake of my own healing and for the sake of peace of mind, I want to be able to say that I won’t be vying for the next year’s election,” Boniface said.

He said that Kenyan politics are decided by money, which he said is the reason the country ends up electing the wrong people for the job since the good ones hardly go through the process.

The activist has however said that he will continue fighting for justice and freedom of Kenyans as an active citizen.

In the last general elections, Boniface went for the Starehe Constituency Parliamentary Seat as but lost to the incumbent MP Charles Njagua of the Jubilee Party.
