Change of Guard: Cameroon appoints Rigobert Song As The New Cameroon Coach

Former Cameroon player and captain Rigobert Song has been appointed the new Indomitable Lions coach taking over from his predecessor António Conceição da Silva Oliveira. Song will be assisted by former Harambee Stars coach Sesbastian Migne.

The Ministry of Sports made changes to the team because of the poor performance as witnessed in the last Africa Cup of Nations matches held in their home grounds. 

The Indomitable Lions were denied a chance to progress to the finals by a defeat from Senegal. According to local football pundits, this looks like a strategy to ensure the legends are given a chance to lead the local football clubs for better results as witnessed in other countries where these legends have been proven to be hard to defeat.

Few months ago former player and legend, Samuel Etoo, was also appointed by the Cameroon  Football Federation to steer the football affairs of the country to excellence.

The host of 2021 Cup of Nations became position 3 after defeating Burkina Faso. According to the the  Ministry of Sports, the results were good but not excellent and they are looking to restore their glory back on track from the new team as they are not satisfied and that is the reason they have taken the bold decision.

The minister of sports in a press release to the media stations, thanked the former coach for the the work he did in managing football affairs of the team and wished him the best in his future career.

Cameroon is eyeing to qualify for the World Cup during the Algeria home and away matches which will see the winner sail to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup competitions.
