Machester City players celebrate a goal against Leipzig

A  cage match affair ensued at the Etihad as Manchester City kicked off their 2021/22 campaign in style with a 6-3 victory over Leipzig in a goals galore contest last night.

The match lived off its expectation when City took an early lead thanks to Dutch defender Nathan Ake who leapt above a mammoth of Leipzig defence to head it home with just 15 mins in. Things went from bad to worse for the Germans as Centre back Mukiele scored an own goal from close range giving City a 2-0 lead after just 27 mins into the game.

Jesse March's men responded perfectly with quality passing and Christopher Nkunku got his name on the scoresheet after heading the ball past Ederson to reduce the deficit. 4 mins before half-time.

The celebrations were short lived as Algerian Winger Riyad Mahrez slotted home a penalty after a handball to restore the Cityzens lead.

Leipzig once again came back to the game with Christopher Nkunku heading yet again another goal after the City backline left the French international alone in the penalty box to his delight.

However the drama did not stop there as in the 73rd minute Christopher Nkunku sealed his perfect performance by completing his hat trick only for Portuguese Fullback Joao Cancelo to unleash a strike from outside the box.
