Many of the Chinese online activist accounts have been deactivated over the past few days. This have trigger anger, fear that the women have to face in being denied a platform to express themselves.

The account is said to have been removed from the popular micro-blogging site WEIBO as well as online platform DOUBAN, which claims the content to be having extreme and ideological content.

It all started from a video posted by a woman activist Xiao Meili on Weibo in March. She recounted that she was trying to stop a customer inside a shop to stop smoking, but the man became agitated and threw a cup of hot liquid at her and her friends.

She uploaded the video and wrote about the incident. It received a different approach. Weibo still decided to remove her account and online channel.

Following the removal of Xiao's account, several feminist activists came out to her defense, but their accounts were also deactivated before long and removed from social media platforms.

Liang wrote in a public statement that she didn't post any content that violates Weibo's community rules, but her account was removed after other users harassed and reported her account.

Currently more than 20 feminist Weibo accounts have been removed and the number keeps Rising.

Feminist activists are politically stigmatized. They are trying to create a safe online space for the community but such a space no longer exists in China.

While being surveilled and censored, it is a common experience among Chinese internet users. Feminists are still trying to search for new spaces to operate amid constant crackdowns and censorship.
