Congo Confirms Ebola Outbreak

The Democratic Republic of Congo has today confirmed 2 new cases of the Ebola virus.

According to the country`s Health Minister Eugene Nzanzu Salita, the first case was confirmed in Butembo 150 kilometers (93 miles) from the center of the outbreak.

This comes at a time as of 14th February 4 cases of Ebola virus (EVD), and two deaths, were reported in the North Kivu province in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

However, a large outbreak was declared over in June last year where Biena and Katwa were affected.

As of 1st September 2020, 110 cases (104 confirmed and six probable) including 47 deaths (case fatality ratio 43%) were reported from 36 health areas in 11 health zones.

However, the World Health Organization (WHO) is deploying teams of experts to support the National Authorities ramp up the response and avert widespread infections.
