COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli Hits Out at DP Ruto

The Central Organizations of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general, Francis Atwoli, has hit out to the Deputy President William Ruto after Ruto referred to him as a stupid man.

Atwoli, said that it was better to be called a stupid man than to be a thief, hitting out that the reason the second in command hates him is because he (Atwoli) stopped him from stealing at NSSF.

The anger with William Ruto against me is because I stopped him from stealing at NSSF,”  Atwoli said.

Ruto, who is in the United Kingdom in a video had referred to Atwoli as a stupid man. Ruto was defending his position to have people pay for the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) according to their earnings.

“When we came to office, we had 3.8 million people contributing to NHIF and everybody was contributing ksh.320 so, we decided to say why don’t we adjust so that the people who earn more like deputy president can pay five thousand. So, we changed the regulation but we were taken to court by a stupid man called Atwoli,” Ruto said.

Ruto was speaking at public engagement in London.

Atwoli further went to show how the deputy president got corruption deals at the NHIF saying that most service providers to the NHIF have not been paid for a long time.

The deputy president and the COTU boss have been political rivals constantly throwing shades at each other for sometime now.

In most cases, the COTU boss has publicly announced that the deputy president would not win the August 9th elections.

This comes at a time when different political formations are being formed to cling to power after the August polls. Atwoli is a strong supporter of the Azimio la Umoja team led by the President and the former Prime minister Raila Odinga that is against Ruto’s presidential bid.
