Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has requested Kenyans to donate blood as a special valentine gift for Kenyans.

Kagwe during a blood donation campaign drive thanked the leadership of the National Blood Service parastatal led by Dr.Nduku due to their great efforts. He further added that if there was a wonderful gift to give Kenyans on Valentine`s day would be blood.

He also advised that if someone was to be gifted flowers during valentine then the recipient should also ask for a blood donation certificate and if asked to choose between flowers and a blood donation certificate one should forfeit the flowers.

Based on Kagwe`s analysis 98% of Kenyans can donate blood and continue to operate normally adding that doctors recommend a regular donation of blood. He stated that it should be noted that blood is a vital part in Universal Health Care as it is easier to forget it since all the attention and energy have been directed to manage and control the Covid 19 pandemic.

Kagwe thanked Kenyans who have been active at the forefront when it comes to blood donation stating that some will be recognized today. He added that the Ministry Of Health is planning to move National Blood Services from being a parastatal in the ministry to an independent institution.

The PS Ministry Of Health Susan Mochache thanked the CS for leading the ministry to achieve transformative change for the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Services which has improved the image of the parastatal. She stated that the ministry has received Ksh1 billion from the World Bank for purposing of improving and strengthening the infrastructure of the blood services parastatal.
