CS Matiang`i & Mucheru Speaks After UDA Politicians Demanded their Resignation

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru have firmly stated that they will continue with executing duties assigned to them by the head of state Uhuru Kenyatta and they won't resign as other United Democratic Alliance {UDA} party leaders demand.

Their statement comes barely weeks after Members of Parliament allied to Kenya`s Deputy President William Ruto had accused the CS and his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru of interfering with the work of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The members had Demanded President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack the CSs and declare their seats vacant.

Another Cabinet Secretary that United Democratic Alliance {UDA} members wanted to quite his docket was Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

This was after he was spotted in an apolitical rally with Orange Democratic Movement {ODM} party Leader Raila Odinga.

However, in a statement issued by ICT CS Joe Mucheru on Monday 1st November, he stated that he won’t resign as asked further maintaining that the claims were meant to distract him from discharging his duties.

“Those calling for my resignation want to distract him and security officers from executing their responsibilities of protecting all stakeholders,” he said.

He further stated that their duties in the elections are to ensure that there are free and fair elections and nothing else.

“We, in the security sector, do not conduct elections— that is the mandate of the IEBC, and our work is to support the Commission by providing security.”

He also urged his members never to be intimidated by anybody.

“Don’t be intimidated by threats, you are only answerable to the people of Kenya and your job is to uphold zero-tolerance policy to those who encourage political intolerance,” he said.
