DCI bust agency for holding migrant workers in Kiambu

DCI has questioned proprietors of Khaleej Home Care Centre, a domestic workers training institution following the claims that some of the women found were being held against their will. The agency had failed to follow covid -19 protocols as the women training were not observing social distancing.

The spaces between these double-decker beds were too small to even let someone pass through. And the place only had two washrooms for the women. It has been home to some 400 women between the ages of 21 and 50 undergoing training before heading to Saudi Arabia as domestic workers. The 400 women who were being trained were under the assumption they would be going to Qatar to be nurses and teachers, only to be forced to sign contracts indicating that they will be house helps.

The training institution had been training women in a church hall owned by ACK Redhill Church. The teachers here inform us that they receive the students from different agents across the country, and put them through a one-month training before they depart. The detectives have confiscated operating licenses from the Kiambu county government and the National Industrial Training Authority
