DCI Gives Wanjigi 72 Hours to Surrender His Firearms

The DCI has ordered businessman Jimmy Wanjigi to surrender eleven firearms they claim he holds illegally, giving rise to a fresh new tussle between the businessman and DCI.

DCI Statements

Kuria Obadiah, investigating officer, read summons stating, “The illegal holding of Firearms and such massive amount of Ammunition particularly at this time of heightened political activity could be used to commit a myriad of offences including but not limited to maiming and or killing of innocent persons or opponents.”

The investigating officer continued, “You are therefore required to surrender the under listed Firearms and Ammunition to the undersigned at the DCI Headquarters, Mazingira Complex, Kiambu Road within 72 hours from the date and time of delivery of this Summons.”

The firearms were discovered by the DCI in the businessman’s Kwacha House offices during an operation by DCI officers investigating Wanjigi over real-estate and land fraud.

Wanjigi’s Legal Woes

The tycoon has been in a legal battle with the DCI regarding six guns the government of Kenya confiscated in 2017.

In November 2021, HC Judge Anthony Mrima sentenced George Kinoti, the DCI Boss, to 4 months in prison for ignoring a court order that required him to return Wanjigi’s guns.

Justice Chacha Mwita ordered that the guns be returned to Mr Wanjigi in 2019. The High Court upheld this order and gave the DCI boss thirty days to return the firearms. Mr Kinoti was meant to comply with this order by 30th March 2021.
