DCI Seeks Court Order to Detain FKF President Nick Mwendwa for 14 Days

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) filed a miscellaneous application to have Nick Mwendwa detained at the Gigiri Police Station.

Mwendwa was arrested last Friday over alleged graft.

He was taken to the DCI Headquarters where he was questioned on how FKF spent Sh430 million advanced to FKF from 2016 by the Sports, Arts, and Social Development for running football activities.

Mwendwa was also grilled on Sh244 million extended to the federation to prepare Harambee Stars for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Prosecution says Mwendwa is likely to interfere with the probe if police are not granted orders to detain him.

Mwendwa's lawyer Eric Mutua has opposed the application for detention, saying the state has not given compelling reasons for pre-trial detention.

The Court to rule on whether Mwendwa will be granted bond on November 17, 2021
