Mbappe was widely criticized for his role in the June tournament, failing to find the net in the whole competition before missing the crucial spot-kick in France’s shock last-16 exit to Switzerland.

In Thursday night’s victory over Belgium – France’s first knockout match since their Euro exit – the 22-year-old was in electric form as Deschamps’ side came from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2 late on, with Mbappe scoring a second-half penalty.

‘Kylian didn’t have any doubt,’ said Deschamps after the match. ‘He was determined after lacking efficiency at the Euros.

‘Like I always said, the French team is better with than without Kylian Mbappe.

‘We were knocked out by Switzerland (at Euro 2020) but the France national team is still here. We’re still among the best teams.’

France went behind in Thursday’s Turin clash, with Yannick Carrasco and Romelu Lukaku putting Belgium 2-0 up at the interval, despite Les Bleus dominating most of the possession.
