Did Kang’ata Lie to the President?

Former Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata received a backlash on Tuesday after the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill was passed unanimously in Murang’a County.

Did Kang’ata Lie to the President?

Kang’ata had written a letter to the President informing him that the people of Mt. Kenya did not want the proposed BBI.

However, on Tuesday, Murang’a County was the first Mt. Kenya County to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill unanimously in voting witnessed by Murang’a County Governor Mwangi Wa Iria.

Raila’s ally Silas Jakakimba however questioned the research done by the Murang’a Senator which led to him writing a letter to the President.

“Murang’a county assembly, where my class-mate Sen. @HonKangata did some 'verandah research', has UNANIMOUSLY approved and passed the BBI Bill by 53 to 0 votes. That's how the ground is,” Jakakimba said.

Other Kenyans accused Kang’ata of exempting the views of the MCAs while conducting his research.

Murang’a County MCAs chanted “Kang’ata Must Go” after passing the Bill where they accuse him of lying to the Head of State.
