Speaking during the Kenya Kwanza coalition signing of agreement, the second in command told off his critics saying that renovation of his Karen residence was not part of his Kenya Kwanza priority amidst Kenyans going hungry and tough economic times.

It is only inhuman if anybody thinks that while we have three million Kenyans facing starvation, the priority is to renovate the office of the Deputy President.” Ruto said.

I want to tell the good people who want to assist us with renovation, that for Kenya kwanza, renovating the residence of the deputy president is not a priority. The priority is to sort out the hunger of the 3 million Kenyans who today are sleeping hungry.”  Ruto added.

Yesterday, sources close to President Uhuru Kenyatta have told journalists that the State Department of Public Works is "prepared" to send a vacate notice to Ruto and his family in order to allow for "renovations" at the Karen mansion.

According to the insiders, the "renovations" are being done in preparation for the next tenant of the DP's office.

Uhuru's allies claimed that the Jubilee government, which Ruto helped form in 2013 and 2017, has had enough of Ruto’s criticism and that it is time he vacates his Karen residence and foregoes the perks and benefits that come with his position, citing the DP's recent comments on the "artificial fuel crisis," in which the DP linked the ongoing shortage to the work of "cartels and State barons."
