DRC Formally joins the EAC.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has formally joined the EAC after its president Felix Antoine Tshisekedi signed a bidding agreement at the State House Nairobi.

In an event that was attended by the East African Heads of States and hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta, members states have welcomed the move by the DRC as a game-changer for the region.

Kenyatta in his capacity as the EAC chairperson, welcomed the DRC for the step they took to join the East African Community saying that it was a great milestone for the entire EAC community.

I today applaud my brother for his exemplary leadership and stewardship and indeed for his wise decision to lead his country in becoming a full member of the EAC,” Kenyatta said.

Congratulations dear brother for leading the DRC to this milestone and I hope to welcome you soon to our next ordinary summit as a full member. Long live the DRC, long live the EAC, one people, one destiny” Kenyatta added.

The Head of State intimated that trade and economic activities in the region would be at the center stage since more markets would be open for investment.

The accession of the DRC to the EAC will elevate the gains and more importantly strengthen our economic muscles and competitiveness in the continent as well as globally,” Kenyatta Said.

To President Tshisekedi and the people of DRC, we welcome you to the East African Customs Union and EA Common Markets; this two are the signature pillars of our community and the foundation upon which the social, political trade investment and economic interests.” He added.

Other heads of state who graced the event include; Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Uganda's Yoweri Museveni.

Museveni on his part, stressed on the need for integration saying that prosperity will be accelerated through the provision of a broader market for goods and improving the regional strategic security.

On the other hand, Rwandan President Paul Kagame congratulated the DRC for joining the EAC and promised working with other members states.
