The suspect, identified only as Spencer, is wanted by the US for his alleged involvement in a cocaine smuggling syndicate in Guyana that is said to have brought contraband into President Joe Biden's country in 2015.

"The syndicate smuggled 1.5kilograms of cocaine through shoe luggage, leading to Spencer’s arrest in 2016. He was subsequently taken to court but released on pre-trial conditions," the DCI stated.

A warrant of arrest was issued against the suspect at the time for violating his pre-trial conditions.

The US government issued another arrest warrant after Spencer failed to appear in court and changed his address without notifying the appropriate authorities.

"The suspect then remained on the run until he got arrested yesterday morning at the airport," DCI revealed.

The suspect is currently being held by DCI pending further investigation.

It is unclear whether Spencer will be extradited to the United States, as a wanted international fugitive.
