EACC Goes after Sonko, Kidero, Waititu and Lenolkulal Over their Sh11.5 Billion Unexplained Wealth

The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating properties worth Sh11.5 billion belonging to three former county governors and a sitting county boss believed to have been acquired illegally.

While attending before the Senate Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on Tuesday, the EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala said they are probing the governors’ wealth.

The four politicians under wealth questioning include, Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, impeached Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, Ferdinand Waititu former Kiambu County boss, and Evans Kidero former Nairobi Boss.

The 4 are facing various charges of corruption with Sonko and Waititu having been impeached from offices for among other allegations, graft, and abuse of office.

According to the Chairman, has probed over 1,000 cases with 269 of them being prosecuted in court.

“Examples of high impact cases involved 9 former/current Governors, Principal Secretaries, Senators, MPs, Managing Directors of State Corporations among others,” said Wabukala.

However, Wabukala cited budgetary constraints and politicization of the fight against corruption as some of the major challenges they are facing in the fight against graft and corruption.
