County Government of Nyeri has set up an oxygen plant at Karatina Sub-County Hospital in a bid to meet the rising demand for oxygen supply in the county, especially during this hurting Covid-19 pandemic period.

Also as the county head conducted his usual Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccination spot check at Mukurwe-ini and Karatina Sub-County Hospitals on Thursday, Governor Mutahi Kahiga said that the county is currently hiring and promoting nurses with an aim of reducing the workload presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

So far, thousands of Nyeri residents have received the vaccine with the stock being replenished by the day as per the consumption, said Kahiga.

He urged Nyeri residents particularly those above 58 years, to continue voluntarily presenting themselves to get the jab, which is a protective measure geared towards curbing the further spread of Coronavirus.

The governor did laud all the healthcare workers for their dedication and hard work despite the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic era.

The governor also advised those receiving the jab to proceed adhering to the set directives.

“I wish to remind Nyerians and those receiving the jab to continue adhering to the laid down MoH regulations which are: wearing masks, sanitizing, washing hands and maintaining social distance,” advised the governor.

Kahiga also said that plans are underway for vaccination to be conducted in the following health centres: Bellevue, Thangathi, Karindundu and Gatei.
