Many depend on them to know what’s happening near them, around the county, country, and even globally.

Aside from educating, informing, and entertaining his listeners, Leonard Kirwa, a Radio Presenter at an Eldoret-based station – Upendo FM, feels there is more he can do for people where he comes from.

It is for this reason that he conceptualized organizing a Sports Tournament in his rural home constituency – Nandi Hills in Nandi County.

Dubbed Kapsamilik Youth Tournament, the event, now on its second edition seeks to promote young talent in society.

“The inspiration behind this tournament is based on the need to promote untapped and forgotten talent in society,” Kirwa notes.

Nandi, as it is for the rest of the Rift Valley region is considered a hotbed of athletes, and for this reason, youths with interest in other sports might have been sidelined.

“We’ve so many youths interested in football from this area and have been forgotten for long – that’s why we’re coming in with this tournament,” noted Kirwa who hosts a popular Kalenjin show on the Eldoret Catholic Diocese run radio station.

The event, he says, is part of his way of him giving back to society – which he notes has supported him socially, financially, and even spiritually through their prayers.

Finals for the second edition of the Kapsamilik Youth Tournament will be held at Nandi Hills Stadium on October 3, 2021.

Chama cha Mashinani Party Leader Isaack Ruto will grace the grand finale in the tournament that attracted 12 teams from across Nandi Hills.

“There will be cash prizes and uniforms for the winners. Covid-19 protocols will be strictly followed,” noted Kirwa.
