On 31st August Voi Sub-county Police Commander Bernstein Shari has stated that some passengers were stuck in their car due to an elephant. The responding officers said that they found an elephant on top of the passengers' car.

The driver hit one elephant and it fell on top of the vehicle leaving the passengers with minor injuries. Its injuries were minor but the wild animal was spooked by the incident and there was fear it would attack the passengers. The officers had to kill the animal to pull the passengers to safety who re recovering at Moi Referral Hospital.

There is no confirmation that the passengers will ask for compensation. But it is known the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, the Government of Kenya compensates for crop destruction, death, injury, destruction of property, and livestock predation that has been caused by wildlife.
