Everton to begin talks with former Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno is said to be the favorite candidate to take over after Carlo Ancelotti’s exit since he enjoys strong support in the club's boardroom.

This is due to his performance since joining Wolverhampton in 2017, where he led the team to be promoted to the Premier League after lifting the Championship trophy.

The Portuguese national has received three awards for the Best Manager of the Month in the Premier League. The awards include for the months of September 2018, July and October 2020. He also led the team to finish in seventh position in his first two seasons in the Premier League. Wolves reached at the quarter finals of the Europa League in 2019/20 season.

On 21 May, 2021, Wolves announced that Espirito would be leaving with a mutual consent by the end of the season. He has headed the team to play 199 games of which 144 are from Premier League.

Everton believes that Espirito Santo has the skills to shape a squad capable of winning trophies at Goodison and sees him as a candidate that is hungry for success and with a point to prove after his unexpected sacking by Wolves at the end of the season.

Other candidates linked to Everton include David Moyes, Rafa Benitez, Roberto Martinez, former boss Marco Silva and Vitor Pereira.
