Ex-Chief Justice Predicts A Handshake Between Raila And Ruto After The August Elections

The international community will seek to come in after the August elections should a conflict erupt, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has said.

This, he says, will be specific to the President contest pitting Deputy President William Ruto against Orange party leader and former Premier Raila Odinga.

Mutunga says that it is clear that the winner will be between the two, and if one side or their supporters reject the outcome, then foreigners will intervene.

For him, it is here that the idea of another handshake will come in, predicting that ultimately, there will be a handshake truce between Raila and Ruto.

“One of the two factions will win and if there is the threat to peace, the foreign nations will just tell us to have another handshake,” he said on Citizen TV.

He stated that even so, Kenyans should prepare for the usual aftermath of elections where none of the promises given during campaigns are kept.

He stated that none of the two camps intends to follow up on the things they are promising to do, and each will be soon trampling on the constitution.

“It’s important for Kenyans to know that the political leaders aren’t going to keep their promise... They have no agenda in implementing the Constitution,” he further said during the Wednesday interview.

Ruto and his allies have since begun detecting possible foul play in August, saying that there might be plans to rig him out using the Interior ministry.

They claim that the said rigging might be designed to favor Raila, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has displaced the DP as Uhuru's right-hand man.
