Several Kenyans have lamented how roadside hawkers are trading contaminated yogurt along Kenyan highways. The case is even worse in areas along Nairobi to the Nakuru highway.

The issue won attention by many Kenyans after one social media user narrated the experience that caused a stir among several netizens.

"When you arrive at Gilgil weighbridge, buy three yogurts from these roadside hawkers and give one yogurt back to the hawker to partake as you watch...," stated the user noting how the hawkers cannot take the yogurt themselves.

Following the statement, several Kenyans took to social media to narrate their experiences. One user recalled how he took the product while journeying, forcing him to tell the driver to stop after he developed a running stomach.

Another user revealed being aware of how a kid died of complications arising from the same product. According to the user, the father of the kid bought yogurt around Nakuru on their way to Nairobi.

After taking it, the kid fell ill, with the condition growing worse leading to death by the time they had arrived at Nairobi City.

In regard to the matter, Nutritionist Moses Kutwah noted some dangers Kenyans risked for buying some roadside foods. According to the Nutritionist, some foods require special storage conditions which the roadside hawkers cannot afford.

The Nutritionist adds that foods such as yogurts require constant refrigeration since it contains microbes which may render it poisonous if not refrigerated.

Some years back, an expose revealed how a company namely Optimum was selling fake yogurt. Discreet sources stated how the product had been manufactured with cornflour, henna, water, colors, and sugar.
