FIFA Suspends Kenya Indefinitely from Football Activities

Football Kenya Federation has been slapped with an indefinite suspension by the Fifa Congress in Qatar on Thursday morning.

The confirmation saw 198 Fifa members vote for the suspension while one voted against.

The Fifa Council suspended the FKF on February 24, 2022, with immediate effect due to third-party (government) interference.

This was after the takeover of FKF activities by a government-appointed ‘caretaker committee’ in lieu of the executive committee and general secretary, which constituted a serious violation of the Fifa Statutes.

The suspension will only be lifted once the pertinent requirements have been fulfilled. These include the return of the mandate to run football activities to the executive committee and the general secretary.

Kenya has been suspended from all international football competitions because of government interference, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced.

The ban means no Kenyan team - including club sides vying for Confederation of African Football (CAF) tournaments - can play internationally.

It also means that neither the FKF nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programs, courses, or training from FIFA and/or CAF.

World football’s ruling body said the country will remain suspended until the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), which was dissolved last year by the Kenyan government is reinstated.
