Five People Killed By Suspected Millitants In Lamu At A Construction Site

In the Majengo district of Lamu County, suspected militants have killed five persons and critically injured another.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon.

A Chinese national who narrowly missed death was discovered with both hands cut in a bush.

Gunshot wounds were blamed for the five deaths.

The LAPSSET project's supervisor is the only survivor of the Friday afternoon tragedy.

Several cars are said to have been set ablaze on the Bargoni Bodhei route.

During the incident, militants vandalized a bridge linking Majengo and Bodhei.

The administration has attributed the current attacks and displacements in Lamu to ethnic profiling tied to political orientations around elections, a coming voter registration campaign, and property conflicts.

"Killing innocent, harmless people who are just going about their business is cowardly. Instead of killing defenseless young guys, they should have waited for Kenyan military," said Said Omar, a preacher.

It is the latest in a series of attacks on the building site that have occurred despite continuing security operations in the region.

The terrorists, who appear to have local support, want to stop the development of a crucial route that would open up many business opportunities in the area.

Two days prior, Kenya Defence Forces operations in the region killed one insurgent and recovered an AK47 rifle with three magazines in Milimani.

The area is subject to a dusk-to-dawn curfew, which explains why the attackers attacked the automobiles during the day.
