He was allegedly ambushed by armed gunmen on Friday in Nairobi's Kahawa West at around four in the morning after he and his wife left a party in Roysambu and were driving home.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin, wishes detective Mwange, a speedy recovery and sends his loved ones lots of love from the DCI family, following the unfortunate incident," the DCI said.

According to DCI, the thugs stopped his car and pretended to be police officials, and inquired as to his destination.

The thugs had been following his car without his knowledge, and when he stopped to open the gate to his house, one of the thugs opened fire, shot him, and fled into the night.

"A four-man gang accosted them along Kamiti road, close to Jacaranda estate," DCI said.

After the shooting incident, his wife took him to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral hospital where he is receiving medical care.

"His wife immediately rushed him to Kenyatta University hospital where he is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition," DCI said.

Since then, a group of detectives from three specialist teams has been sent on a quest to find the armed suspects.
